International Podcast Day

Happy International Podcast Day!
Gosh, do you remember when podcasting was niche? It was so hard to get started, you had to have so many different things sorted. You needed to have a podcast .PNG image/ logo on one platform, then your audio would sit on another, and separately to both of those you'd have your RSS feed. Then you needed to connect that RSS feed to podcast platforms. Honestly it was a whole mission, well, maybe like 5 missions.
It is so much easier to get started now, which is great. Theres so many more stories, experiences, insights and thoughts being shared. Yes, if you are focused on the numbers that does make discovery harder for most podcasts. But existing, existing got way more accessible and possible.
For me that was always something I hoped for. For it to be easier for people to share their insights, passions and lived experiences. My podcast, and many (but not all) like mine, can be listened to by anyone, but I think theres a targeted audience. Those people that are passionate, interested in, curious about or wanting to know more about our causes, projects, campaigns and lived experiences.
In part that has fed into why I keep editing to a minimum, to provide a genuine and honest open discussion. This is what we said and how we said it. Potentially, mistakes and all. Because thats real. They represent the conversations I hope and desire for us to all have with our support networks (friends, colleagues, family, etc).
Podcasting has evolved so much. In the last few years we've seen the growth of video podcasts, and particularly in the last year or so, not just a podcast with video. But full tv shows that are the podcast. Its wild the development.
With that development theres a lovely opportunity to develop/ evolve your podcast, but also I think a reminder of what is the focus, and why are you doing it. I have had spells years ago where I was putting alot into the podcast, and it wasnt the healthiest use of time; when I needed to slow down and make time to recharge. While I do miss the fortnightly episodes, Im happier with the monthly(ish) focus I have now. It fits with my other commitments, and the time I have available. I have also enjoyed the learning process of adding video to the podcast recently. Even if those first two episodes did take forever to work out.

Away from my own podcast, and those with a similar cause focus, Im really enjoying a few different and some long term podcasts right now. Including:
Im not currently listening to, but highly recommend from previously listening to:
Podcast hosting and producing is great, I really enjoy it. Its definitely something I have grown into over time too. (Hopefully) Developing more and better conversation skills and learning how to host sensitive and emotional conversations, alongside some more lighthearted experiences and insights. If you'd like to check out my podcast and the wonderful guests (theres been over 160 now!), then click Apple Podcast or Spotify to listen now.
I hope you have a great International Podcast Day, and keep enjoying all your favourite.
